I'm still Thankful...Christmas preview

Okay, so the daily list of things I am thankful for didn't pan out so well.  So much for trying to keep up with life and my blog at the same time.

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is in two days.  Wasn't it just Labor Day? I understand now when my Grandma used to say that the days fly by so quickly the older you get.  40 years ago I wished them away so we could just get to Christmas faster!  I have been wanting to get my Christmas decorations out, but my Daughter3 keeps reminding me to:
"Let Thanksgiving have it's day, Mom!"
But that doesn't stop me from planning!

I really love the mercury glass and bottle brush trees this year.

And these Jingle Bells are to die for...

Snowflakes are a favorite.

But the White is so peaceful..with some Silver and Red accents....
I SWOON over this stuff!

This is one of my favorites when you don't have a mantle to decorate.
She changes this vignette with the seasons. Brilliant.  You need to check her out, she is very creative and on a DIY budget!

So that's just a little peek of what I have going on in my head.

Plus, for some reason I just love this little guy...I
in all of his Vintage cuteness.

I'll let you know when the Christmas bins have been unloaded.
Until then, I am still Thankful that it is only
November 20th!

Day 9

Day 9

I am thankful for a Job I love.

I work in the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders as a Clinical Services Advocate.  Most of my time is spend obtaining insurance benefits for families whose children need our services.
It is very rewarding and enlightening as you you navigate day to day with these families that have children with autism and/or severe behaviors.
I thank God for the opportunity to serve them, as well as getting to work with the top Psychologists in the country on Autism Disorders.

Day 8

Day 8

I am Thankful for music.  All kinds of music.
The songs that evoke that memory long past.  Or the ones that get you through a tough time in your life.  That make you want to dance or sing in the shower.

My whole life I have been exposed to music.  My girls have come to know, and love, many different genres.
The best are the songs you make up on your own.  Listening to my children laugh to made up lyrics to a tune has given me many laugh-till-you-cry moments.

All three have had a specific bedtime song.
The tunes are as varied as they are.

Abigail
Edelweiss
Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews

Emily
Groovy Kind of Love
Phil Collins

Hannah
Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ra
An Irish Lullaby
Bing Crosby in :"Going My Way"
It's appropriate that this is her song as she is the most Irish looking of all of us.  My husband's mother was Irish and Hannah favors that heritage with her auburn hair and fair skin.

My husband, Kevin, would tuck them all into their beds and sing these songs to them as toddlers.  It was a wonderful nurturing tradition that I hope they will carry on with their own children.

Well, until tomorrow...see if this brings back any memories!

Day 7

Day 7

I am thankful for Daylight Savings Time!

It's so nice to get up and got to work in the DAYLIGHT!
I know eventually we will be going home from work in the dark, but for now, it's awesome!

The Fall Back has played havoc with my internal clock but it's worth it!
Now if I can just stay awake until the news comes on!

Have a great FALL DAY!

Day 6 Election Day

Today we pick a new or keep a President. I am thankful for the 1st Amendment so we have the freedoms to live in a way that is equal for all. I am not naive enough to think that there is absolute equality in our system. There is always room for improvement. But there is a system in place.
After visiting Thomas Jefferson's House, Monticello, on our trip to Charlottesville, I was humbled by Jefferson's vision and intelligence. Yes, he was a slave owner. I am not agreeing with his way of life, as much as his vision for America.
So today, those of you that can exercise your right to vote, please do so.

That right has been defended for many decades.

Days 4 and 5

Day 4

I am grateful for FOOTBALL! I enjoyed seeing the Green Bay Packers WIN yesterday!
Not a typical "Chick" thing, I know, but I love to watch NFL football!

Day 5

I am thankful for COFFEE on this cool November Day in Omaha.
Drizzle, north wind, gray and it's MONDAY...
It's a simple thing really.  BUT it makes such a difference!
